It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas H. Wetzel, Jr., who passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the age of 79, as a resident of Lawrenceville, GA. Born on December 15, 1944, in Chester, PA, Thomas lived a life of unwavering love, faith, and service to his family, church, and community.
Thomas graduated from St. Francis College in Loretto, PA, with a BS in Accounting, a field he dedicated his career to until his retirement in 2023. A proud veteran, he also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. His commitment to service extended far beyond his professional life, as he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, his church choir, and the Cursillo movement, through which he touched many lives with his faith and kindness.
As a devout Catholic, Thomas exemplified a life of devotion, rooted in his deep love for God and his family. His family remembers him for his unconditional love, loyalty, and dependability. He was a man who made those around him feel deeply cared for and supported. His love for his family and friends inspired others, and his commitment to his faith community was a testament to the values he held dear.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas H. Wetzel, Sr. and Sarah Pauline (Howell) Wetzel; his brother Paul F. Wetzel; his son Brian J. Guillory; and his sister Susan Marie Wetzel.
Thomas leaves behind his beloved wife, Sharon Wetzel; his sons Joesin Guillory (Wendy), Greg Guillory (Jackie), and Bryan Wetzel (Carrie); his daughter Alicia Chitwood (Brandon); his cherished grandchildren Sarah Haile (John), Aaron Guillory (Katelyn), Paul Guillory, Rebekah Guillory, Elizabeth Guillory, Rachel Guillory, Andrew Guillory, Sam Guillory, Ethan Wetzel, Sophia Wetzel, Camden Chitwood, Dylan Chitwood, and Evan Chitwood, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Sunseri (Rick) and Carol Grassi (Jim); and his brothers, Ed Wetzel (Evelyn), Joe Wetzel (Robin), Don Wetzel (Cindy), and Rick Wetzel (Janice).
A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Church, 85 Gloster Rd NW, Lawrenceville, GA 30044. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM, celebrating Thomas’s life and his deep faith. After the service, an inurnment will take place at 3:00 PM at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Thomas’s memory to the Knights of Columbus or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, continuing his legacy of love and service.
Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
