Walter Hugh Sheppard, age 85 of Good Hope, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Born on March 12, 1937 in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA to the late Arthur Jhue Sheppard and Mildred Jenkins Sheppard. Walter was preceded in death by infant brother, Robert Sheppard. Surviving are wife of 66 years, Peggy Ann Bryant Sheppard; daughter, Deborah (Alan) Sullivan; daughter, Susan (Robbie) Dunning; son, David (Alejandra) Sheppard; daughter, Jean (Lamar) Williams; daughter, Ann Smedley; grandchildren Daniel (Nichole) Sullivan, Elizabeth Cooper, Anna (DJ) Youngblood, Mattie Sheppard, Berenice Sanchez, Erick Bob Sanchez, Matthew (Abbie) Williams, Jonathan Williams, Katie (Sullivan) Vickery, Samuel Williams, Tyler Smedley, Jesse Smedley; great-grandchildren Jacob, Kirsten, and Lorelei Sullivan; Kara and Jensen Phillips, Hazel Cooper; Charlotte and Maggie Youngblood; Sydney and Tristan Williams; Easton and Carter Vickery; many loving nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.
Walter was saved as a young boy at Woodville Baptist Church, Redan, GA. He joined Zion Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, GA in 1970 where he served as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and deacon and church clerk for over 30 years. He was a custom homebuilder in Dekalb and Gwinnett counties for over 55 years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Zion Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, GA. Reverend Scott Richardson, Reverend Billy Holloway, and Reverend Lanny Myers officiating. Interment Redan Cemetery, Redan, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Baptist Church or Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.

Bro.. Walter was a man of honor and integrity! He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and his family with all his heart. Everyone that knew him had the uttermost respect for him. He loved Zion Baptist church and he wanted to make sure that every service was led by the Spirit of God and order and respect was always present in God’s House. He will always be missed!
