Susan Jane Ward

Susan – Jane Ward Sue, 86, passed away on March 8, 2013, after a long and valiant battle with colon cancer. Mrs. Ward was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Judson C. Ward, Jr. and is survived by her four children, Peter, Michael, Rebecca Davenport, and Jonathan. Mrs. Ward also enjoyed five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Born Susan – Jane Weyant in Highland Falls, New York on June 5, 1926, she and Dr. Ward were married in April, 1946, while he was teaching at the US Military Academy at West Point during World War II. Mrs. Ward loved words and books and spent many hours working cross word puzzles and beating all opponents at "Scrabble", "Jepardy" and "Trivial Pursuit." She loved to travel and saw much of the world, traveling to Europe and Asia with friends and Alaska and Australia with granddaughter, Jennifer. Mrs. Ward volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at Wesley Woods on the Emory University campus where she was loved and admired by all she served. She was a devoted mother to her four children spending many years providing taxi service for them and their friends to many after school activities. Mrs. Ward never missed a school play, awards ceremony, football, basketball or baseball game and was often the only parent at son Jonathan's cross country meets. She will be missed by all who loved her. At her request, Mrs. Ward will be memorialized in a private family service.
