Willie Mack Smith
January 4, 1939 ~ April 9, 2024
Resided in:
Stone Mountain, Georgia
On April 9th, we lost an absolutely wonderful soul who will be greatly missed. For decades now if you were first meeting Willie Mack Smith of Stone Mountain, the first things you were likely to notice were his crystal blue eyes and his beautiful white hair. Next would be that mischievous grin of his. You would come to realize that he was a one of a kind and was, somehow, one of the most stubborn yet at the same time, kindest, humans on earth. He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was happiest when doting on (or aggravating) his wife Clara Ann. The rest of his happy time was spent adventuring on camping trips with his family, crafting masterpieces in his woodshop (the Boy’s Club), sitting on a riverbank fishing, watching wrestling with Granny, doting on his pet birds and tiny dogs, tinkering constantly in his yard, or taking care of family. He most definitely was a jack of all trades but his wood working skills really stood out. Many of us have creations of his that we cherish. He was called Papa or Uncle Mack by most because, even if you weren’t a blood relative, Papa was going to treat you and love you like family.
He is survived by: Daughter, Diane Mahaffey and Son-in-law Carl Mahaffey. Grandchildren, Nickie Smith, Susie Smith, Margie Ervin and Jamey Ervin, Christina Burroughs and Mike Burroughs. Great-Grandchildren, Alex Clowdus and Terry Clowdus, Hunter Allen, Emerson Ervin, Anderson Teague, Ashlyn Ervin, Cory Ervin. Sister-in-law Mary Katy Powell, Brother-in-law Gary Powell, and daughter-in-law/sister-in-law/angelic caretaker Carol Powell.
He is preceded in death by: Wife of 65 years, Clara Ann Smith. Son, Derrek Smith. Grandson, Dustin Jackson. Brother, Junior Smith. Sisters Geneva Brown, Ruth Butler, and Jean Taylor.
Visitation will be held at Wages and Sons in Stone Mountain, Friday, April 12th, 4pm-8pm.
Funeral will be held on Saturday at 2pm, also at Wages, with a graveside service to follow at Stone Mountain Cemetery. All are welcome back at his house afterward for remembrance and Celebration of Life.
