Leon Eugene Windle, age 83, of Lawrenceville passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Leon was a WWII veteran and received a purple heart for his participation in the Battle of Okinawa. Before moving to Lawrenceville, Leon lived in Merritt Island, FL for 37 years, where he managed a team delivering safety courses at Cape Kennedy during the Apollo program. He also taught science at Edgewood Jr. High in Merritt Island. Leon spent 10 years compiling a geneology and biography of his parents' families. He is well known for his garden-grown tomatoes. He spent his life working to provide and care for his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Kindrick Windle; children, Patricia Windle Partridge, Harry Windle and Marilyn Windle; grandchildren, Burton Windle and Tara Partridge; great grandchildren, Ryan & Gavin Windle. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 2 o'clock at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel with interment to follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Cancer Ministry at Cannon United Methodist Church, 2424 Webb Gin House Rd, Snellville, GA 30078
