Born in: Jamaica
Resided in: Lithonia, Georgia

Winsome Margaret Thomas, age 72, passed peacefully away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Emory University Medical Center, Atlanta, Georgia. She was born July 8, 1948 in Kingston to Woodrow and Thelma McGhie. At age 9 she earned a full scholarship to Wolmers Girls High School where she made many lifelong friends. She subsequently received her O Levels and graduated from Holy Childhood High School. After graduation, Winsome initially worked at an insurance company, then became one of the inaugural class of flight attendants for Air Jamaica Airlines, where she displayed her signature knack for charming people and her resourcefulness in tense situations. In 1968 she married Peter Thomas and then subsequently left Air Jamaica to nurture her sons. In later life she became involved in real estate and business administration. As a long-term member of the International Lions Club, she was a strong supporter of their community outreach activities and held offices as Fundraising Committee Chairperson and President as well as that of general member.

No one who met Winsome forgot her infectious warmth and generous spirit, her love of family, friends, style and fashion. She was as winsome as her name with an exceptional ability to reach others, even total strangers, in a warm and personable way because of her interest in people and the world.

Winsome was talented amateur artist, sociable, a larger-than-life personality, a joy and bright light to her extended family and many friends around the world. We are bereft at the loss of that light. She is survived by her mother, her sons, Andrew and Richard, her grandson, Maxim, three sisters, and many nieces, nephews and grandnephews. After cremation, her life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service July 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

  1. SIP wonderful angel. Mrs. Thomas was a sweet human being and a phenomenal woman. Full of grace and poise, she was always pleasant and kind and a joy to be around. She loved her family dearly and doted on them as they were her world and she theirs. She professed not long before her untimely passing that she loved her life, was thankful for the life she had lead and was happy as she had been able to do the things she wanted to and so we are comforted knowing that she is at peace. Sleep on Mrs. T. RIP.

  2. CandleImage“Until we meet Again
A light from our lives has gone
A voice we love is still
A place is vacant within our hearts which never can be filled.
A bouquet of beautiful memories, sprayed with a million tears. I wish god could have spared you for a few more years.
We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain. To walk with us through your lives until we meet again.
So Rest In Peace dear loved one and thanks for all you’ve done. We pray that God has given you the crown you’ve truly won.
Your vacant place no one can fill. We miss you now and always will.”
    Rest in paradise ❤️

  6. CandleImageWinsome Thomas, Mrs. T as we called her was a fun and loving woman. I can remember her laugh as she sat with me daily reminiscing about her life as a young woman; stories that would make me laugh till my stomach hurt. She was a true matriarch; she loved her children and adored Max, her grandson. She was proud to be a member of the Lions Club and loved hanging with her girls- the morning after the party stories were my favourite. Mrs. T, your smile was contagious and your sway as you walked illustrated a poise with which you carried yourself. You will be missed but your memories will live on in the minds of all those who had the pleasure of knowing you. Sleep Well W.T. I pray for peace over your children and grand and hope that they will find comfort in how you lived and how happy you were. Love and blessings always.

  15. As teenagers growing up in Duhaney Park in Kingston, Winsome Mcgie stood head and shoulders above all of us both boys and Girls in the community. She was classy, And oh so beautiful , 60 Years on and l still believe Winsome Mcgie is the most beautiful Woman l have ever met. I will always remember how we boys in the community would Claim her as our Speical Girl , the irony of it is that she would give us that cut eye look whenever we tried to talk to her , But she was never overtly harsh in us lol I remember making sure l was a the Bus stop every morning before she arrive in her neatly pressed uniform just so l could see her before she boarded the bus for school as for weeks that was the only opportunity to see her as you couldn’t get close to her home as Mrs and Mr Mcgie would just Run you. Later on as adults whenever we saw each other we would talk about those early years, and More recently she would invite me to her Fabulous Parties. l would feel so gd Just knowing how much she has achieved and knowing that amongst the friends and associates l knew her for the longest period of time .
Winsome the Beautiful, Winsome the Classy , Winsome the Mother ,Husband and Grand Mother, You will always be remembered and be Cherished by all of us .As for me I will never forget you as the most Beautiful Woman l have ever met.

    • Winston, Winsome would have enjoyed reading your post. You are correct…she was the most beautiful girl..inside and out. When she was very ill in the ICU and was beginning to give up, the nursing staff did a Zoom call with Winsome and the family. I reminded Winsome then that she was still our Helen of Troy and that she was still the face that Launched a thousand ships. She smiled… and started to fight to get well again. She was a beautiful soul to the end.

  16. CandleImageExtending my heartfelt condolence & prayers for Winsome & family during these difficult times. I’ll always cherish the wonderful memories shared with her. Her captivating smile & kindred spirit will remain indelibly in my heart until we meet again. One Love Always ❤

  18. God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered “come to me”
I’m so glad your suffering has ended, though I fear my heart will never be mended.

  19. When your beautiful heart stopped beating, my heart just broke in two. Knowing that here on earth, there will never be another like you Missing:
    Your smile
    Your voice
    Your sense of humor
    Your charm
    Your wit
Your way of making everything better
    Mostly….just missing you.

  20. Sister, since you left, life just haven’t been the same. The time we spent together meant the world to me. Your laughter and your precious smile, as we grew up happily.
I’m so grateful for the years we had and the closeness that we shared
Your heart, so kind and thoughtful, I always knew you truly cared.
    You were a wonderful sister
I miss you to no end
But more than just my family
I’ve lost a very special friend.
    Sleep in peace my darling
    I love you yesterday
    I love you still
    I always have and,
    I always will❣
