Lawrenceville, GA - John Joseph Cantarella Mr. John, born in the Bronx, NY on March 28, 1929, passed August 4 peacefully after a brief illness, he was surrounded by his beloved family. John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Theresa. His daughters who loved him dearly, Cathleen Matheson and Doris Ann Fleming. Son in laws Barney Matheson and Robert Fleming. Grandchildren, Vanessa Digiacomo, Jennifer Matheson, Bryan and Joanna Matheson, Kelly and Chris Banham, Daniel Fleming, and Kathryn Fleming. As well as his great grandchildren. John is also survived by his wonderful siblings Carlo, Anthony, and Joseph Cantarella, sister Marion and brother in law Guy Morra and sister Lorraine DeCesare. Preceding him, his sister Colonna Costallos. From the days in his beloved Bronx, to serving his country in the navy, to Johnny's Pizza in Mahopac NY, to his Italian Kitchen in NYC. Retiring to Georgia then working in Gwinnett County Schools and finally Home Depot. John enjoyed everyone he came in contact with. He never met a stranger he didn't like and saw the good in all. He loved to sing and would sing everywhere he went and as loud as he could. Didn't matter if he knew the words or not. Mr John as he was known by so many, enjoyed his days singing in the church choir at St. Lawrence Church and was a member of St Monica's Church at the time of his passing. After years of owning and running his own restaurants, he loved to dine out trying all different kinds of restaurants of course Italian food being his favorite. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His smile, laughter, and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by all especially his family. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to St. Monica's Catholic Church, Duluth in John's name. Viewing will be Friday, Aug 9 from 6pm – 9pm at Wages and Sons 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville. 770 277-4550. There will be a celebration mass Saturday, Aug 10, 1:30pm at St. Monica's Catholic Church, Duluth.

  13. We are all saddened by Uncle Johnny’s passing. Our prayers & love go out to everyone. I will always remember as a child enjoying his joking & laughing whenever we were all together or watching him flip pizzas. He will be missed.
