Don was a kind and thoughtful friend to many. I, a long time friend from McD days, will greatly miss his wise perspective on life and people and, of course, his infectious humor. He is one of those few people in a lifetime who leave a ‘footprint on one’s heart’.

  23. To the Segars Family,

Don was employed at McDonalds real estate department in 1973, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was promoted several times over the years, did real estate negotiations personally as well as management and training of numerous people. He was one of the finest and most successful real estate employees McDonalds ever hired. Don’s work took him from Atlanta, Georgia to be responsible for real estate activities in the Southeast and Southwest United States. He was then promoted to an International position in China, Taiwan, Japan, and the rest of Asia Pacific. He used his expertise that drove McDonalds major expansion in Mainland China. McDonalds now has hundreds of restaurants in China due to his extraordinary leadership in the early expansion of that market. To name a few he negotiated our first store opening in China and also Indonesia.

His peers and many friends in the McDonalds system including our many franchises will feel a great sense of sorrow in his passing.

Dae Abram, McDonalds Corporate Real Estate Officer, Retired

  24. NANCY, JON, MARK AND SUSAN, DON WAS MY FRIEND AND BIRD HUNTING PARTNER FOR NEARLY 40 YEARS. YOUR LOSS TOUCHES ME DEEPLY, AND YOU ARE TRULY IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. DON WILL ALWAYS STAND FIRMLY IN MY MEMORY AS SOMEONE I ADMIRED, RESPECTED AND OF COURSE, ENJOYED. HE EMBODIED THE FINEST OF HUMAN VIRTUES: COURAGE, DEVOTION TO FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND NATION, A STEADY MORAL COMPASS, STRENGTH, COMPASSION, WISDOM AND A FINE SENSE OF HUMOR. I FEEL SO VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIS FRIEND.

  25. We were so blessed to have Don as our friend. We will never forget our times with him in his home and at church. It was very early in our relationship that we realized what a perfect matchup God created between him and you, Nancy and we know how lost you will be without him for a very long time. We pray that your Christian friends will help sustain you during your difficult transition. We intend that our prayers will lead your pack of supporters. Dads are so very special as we learned through the deaths of our fathers and we will not forget Jon, Mark and Susan and their families. I know you were blessed by your Dad’s deep devotion to each of you and of the pride he took in each of your accomplishments.
    Please accept our deepest sympathies,

  26. Nancy and family – I was so saddened to hear of Don’s unexpected passing. He was such a fine christian man. I know you will miss him terribly but his legacy will live on for years to come through his children and grandchildren. You are in my prayers as you navigate these difficult days ahead. Much love to all of you.

  27. To Nancy and family
I have been deeply saddened by the news of Don’s death. Don was a colleague, a mentor, and most of all, a friend. I cherish the memories of dealing with the challenges of developing China with Don, and will always be grateful for his guidance and his wonderful good humor in even the most trying circumstances. There is simply no one that I would rather share a glass of something agreeable and a good story with, than Don Segars. The family is very much in my thoughts.

  33. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I had the privilege of being his Atlanta support when he was doing the start-up in SE Asia, and still have all the watches he gave me as McD expanded in that area.
