George and I grew up separated by our 3 years difference in age. I remember more how we connected after we each had served a 3 year hitch in the Marine Corps. I drove to California in the summer of 1961 to visit him at Camp Pendleton, where we played out first round of golf together. All the good times in Byesville with family and golf. I think we were closer to each other when he moved to Atlanta. Lots of golf, late nite pool, and tons of shared memories talked about til early morning.
I love my brother, I will never forget him.
I was lucky enough to marry Bob Heys in 1972. George and Bob being brothers, our families spent a lot of time together, especially when George and family lived in Ohio. I remember When Bob,George, and our mutual friends, the Dillingers, would get together for the pig roast every year. Between the three sons of George and Nellie, the two sons and one daughter of the Dillingers, and our daughter, we had quite a merry crew! We always took pictures of the kids from tallest to smallest in stairstep fashion to keep track of their growth. It was always a race to see which son would be the tallest that year. The two girls were a lot younger and never did get to be the tallest. But, they were always the prettiest!
We loved being with George as he was always good humored and fun to be around! He and Nellie raised fine sons and cherished all the grandchildren. We are grateful for every good memory we have of George!
My grandpa had taught me how to play pool and he and other people had built me, my sister, and my cousin a play house when we were little. I wished I could’ve seen him one last time to tell him that I love him and hug him and then kiss him on the cheek. My grandpa meant everything to me and I will always remember how he told me stories about my dad or how my grandma and him met… I love you grandpa you are a great angel. I will remember all the memories I have of you in my heart
