The family is saddened to inform of the passing of Mr. Thodur M. Bavan. He died peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his siblings – sister Dr. Rekha Vijaykumar and brother Mr. T. M. Ashok Kumar and their families. Mr. Bavan had a long and distinguished career in public service as a civil engineer. He started his career in Indian Civil Engineering Service. He came to the U.S. in 1970 and served as a Director with City of Cleveland, before moving to Atlanta GA in 1979. He retired from City of Atlanta in 1998, after serving as the city’s Director of Water Purification. He was involved in the general community with Shriners and the Tamil community as one of the pioneers of the Georgia Tamil Association (now GATS). He was a very kind, jovial, and generous man who was committed to his profession and his family. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Services will be held on Tuesday January 30, 2018 at Wages and Sons Funeral Home at 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046 Tel # 770.277.4550. Viewing hours will be 11 am to 1 pm, followed by funeral services 1 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Atlanta Humane Society are encouraged. Contact Ashok Kumar 404.626.0227.

    I was greatly sadden when I received the call of Thodur passing. I spoke with him around the 15th or 16th and had a good conversation. Thodur and Betty were very special to Cecil and I. We spent many happy times talking and laughing. He was very special and I will miss our phone conversations.
