William Walter Baldy, known to friends and family as “Bill,” passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on November 11, 1934, to William Walter Baldy, Jr. and Opal Lois Dempsey Baldy. Bill lived a life of service, dedication, and love, leaving a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community.

Bill graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1953 and went on to serve his country in the military. He joined the Army Reserve before enlisting in the United States Air Force on October 13, 1955. As a bomb navigation system mechanic, Bill proudly served for four years, and after his honorable discharge on August 17, 1959, he continued his service in the Air Force Reserves until December 28, 1960. After his time in the Air Force, Bill embarked on a career in landscaping, beginning with Hall’s Nursery and Landscape, followed by his work at Hastings Nursery in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1971, he founded Oakwood Landscaping and Associated Planting Contractors, Inc., in Lilburn, GA, where he became a respected leader in the industry. Bill’s work ethic and passion for landscaping were matched only by his generosity, and he was known for using his skills to help maintain sports fields for the North Dekalb Youth Association. His volunteer efforts included coaching youth sports.

A devoted family man, Bill married Mary Lillian Cagle on July 19, 1963. Together, they shared 49 years of love and companionship until her passing on October 24, 2012. Bill never stopped caring for Mary, and his love for her was unwavering until the end.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, as well as his parents, William W. Baldy, Jr & Opal Lois Dempsey Baldy.

Bill is survived by his son Andrew Baldy and daughter-in-law Connie Baldy; grandson Gray Baldy; granddaughter Caroline Baldy Silvio (Steven); daughter-in-law Dawn Baldy; son Robert Baldy and daughter-in-law Chris Baldy; granddaughter Alexis Baldy Allen (Jacob); grandsons Kent Baldy and Walt Baldy; daughter Kessa Baldy Stanford; grandsons Kyle Stanford (Madison) and Ian Stanford; and great-grandsons Henry Allen and Vincent Silvio.
